On February 1–2 a conference «Rethinking political development: cultures, civilizations and identity» took place in Dhaka. The event, organized by the IPSA Research Committee #37 jointly with Dhaka-based Policy Research Institute and other NGOs, received sponsorship from the International Political Science Association (IPSA). MGIMO University was represented by Head of School of Government and International Affairs Dr. Yan Vaslavskiy.
A key topic of the two-day conference were acute issues of internal development of the countries of the world and international relations in cultural and civilizational context. Yan Vaslavskiy delivered a report «Contemporary Russian political discourse» in which he revealed key problems of this discourse in relation to the Russian history, culture, and political process. Besides, Dr. Vaslavskiy took part in open discussions at roundtables within the conference program and gave comments to other participants’ papers.
Famous Bangladeshi politicians and public figures, as well as guests from India, Pakistan, the US, and the UK attended the event. Dr. Mashiur Rahman, Adviser to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh on Economic Affairs, delivered a speech to the conference participants. Former Regional Representative of the UN Secretary General in Kosovo Ambassador Rashed Ahmed hosted an official reception for the participants and guests.
A volume containing conference papers is planned for publication in the future. The conference became the second event held by the IPSA RC37 in Bangladesh, also conferences were held the US. The tradition of organizing workshops and conferences in periods between IPSA congresses will be continued in the future: RC37 members and participants agreed to organize their 2015 annual meeting in Russia.
