SGIA student Felix Portier best delegate of the International Court of Justice of MIMUN-2016

From April 18th to April 22nd Moscow International Model United Nations took place at MGIMO-University.

1st-year students Felix Portier (France) and Tamrat Haile (Ethiopia) took active part in the work of International Court of Justice. This year case «Obligation to negotiate access to the Pacific Ocean» between Bolivia and Chile provoked a lot of discussions and hard work at the part of all ICJ members and participants. Felix Portier was the advocate of Chile while his classmate Tamrat Haile acted as a witness in attendance. During the final Court session on the 22nd of April, the Honourable Judges of the International Court of Justice have announced the Final Judgement on the case between Bolivia and Chile. The Judges voted separately on several issues of the case, that ruled in favour of Chile, dismissing Bolivia’s claim. This historic ruling by the ICJ in favour of Chile against Bolivia counted with the presence of Distinguished Guest Mr. Juan Cristóbal Marín, Third Secretary of the Embassy of Chile to the Russian Federation.

Felix Portier received a title of the «best delegate» of the ICJ of the MIMUN-2016 and an honorable prize from the hands of Alexei Borisov, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the World Federation of United Nations Associations, Shoaib Khan, President of the ICJ, and Oleg Egorov, Secretary General of the MIMUN-2016.
